Roles and Responsibilities
As a registered student, you are responsible for reading the assigned chapters in the textbook, reading and completing the supplementary materials online, and completing all reading quizzes, assignments, and exams for each module. You are also responsible for checking both your email and BBLearn for course announcements. As this is an online course, you are responsible for procuring secure and stable internet access in order to complete the modules and associated assessments. If you do not have a computer or device that maintains a stable internet connection, UI students have nearly 24 hours access to 15 computer labs and numerous stand-alone kiosks around campus.
Any technical or non-technical questions or difficulties can be addressed to the instructor, but you should always check the Discussion board on BBLearn first to determine if your question has already been answered. If you email the instructor with a questions that has already been answered on the Discussion board, you will be directed to the Discussion board. Students who engage in the Discussion board and ask questions regularly of their peers tend to be the ones who gain the most and excel in online courses.
You are responsible for managing your time and completing the modules, including the exams, well ahead of deadlines for completion. Each module exam is available for only two weeks, and it is up to you to complete the exam well before the due date to allow for technical difficulties, BBLearn outages, and any questions you may have for the instructor to be answered. All module assignments and exams are due at midnight (12:00 am) on Friday night the second week of the module. If you email the instructor on Friday evening with technical difficulties only a few hours before the module is due, the instructor is unlikely to respond to your queries in time for you to complete the module.
Because the module assignments and exams are available for two weeks, you are responsible for managing your workload around any scheduled travel or other academic commitments. The only acceptable instance when the instructor may consider alternate deadlines is prolonged illness (documented by a physician) or family emergencies. You must email the instructor immediately when such a situation arises, and the instructor reserves the right to deny all requests for extension.
The instructor will respond to email queries and questions on discussion boards at least twice per week, and within 48 hours Monday-Friday, except during announced absences. The instructor will also update the grade book on BBLearn once per week.
