Learning Objectives

At the end of this module, students should be able to:
1. Understand the time scales along which geologic change has occurred over Earth's history.
2. Identify and describe the primary forces and agents of geologic change.
3. Identify and describe the primary factors and events that have shaped Earth's atmosphere and lithosphere over the last 4.6 billion years.
4. Describe the primary types of plate collisions and the visible evidence for these plate collisions on the Earth's surface.
5. Explain the mechanisms that power volcanoes and their contributions to the evolution of Earth's atmosphere.
6. Understand what forces have created various landforms throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Before You Begin

Before you begin this module, you must:
1. Read the following chapters and pages in the textbook McKnight's Physical Geography; A Landscape Appreciation:
  • Chapter 13: Introduction to Landform Study
  • Chapter 14: (pages 401-426) The Internal Processes
